Cosimo III invited the Alcantarines, a Spanish Reform Order of Minorites founded by Saint Peter of Alcantara (Franciscan, canonized 1669), to Tuscany, where he built a monastery for them near his villa, L' Ambrogiana. (Cp. Detroit, no. 141.)
