Object Description

Per Donor - November 8, 2017:
Procaccini’s grotesque heads were inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s similar work for the Sforza court, and attest to a revival of interest in the High Renaissance as well as to early 17th century taste for the burlesque. He worked in red chalk, often with white heightening, in careful and conscious emulation of the early 16th century. Another autograph version of our drawing is in the collection of the Louvre.
