Yvonne Jacquette has hired planes to gain elevated and typically unseen aerial perspectives of the Maine landscape since the 1970s. Aerial photography has long been used for environmental surveys and reconnaissance. This depiction of the controversial Maine Yankee Nuclear Plant in Wiscasset is part of a series of drawings that explores the relationship between Maine’s natural resources and industrial developments, as well as concerns about the environmental impact of nuclear power. In addition to the environmental impact of Maine Yankee since its establishment in 1972, the negative economic consequences of decommissioning the plant (1997–2005) have shaped the lives of many Wiscasset residents.
