Antoine Benoist

17th-18th century French sculptor, wax modeler, and painter
(1632 - 1717)

Known primarily as a sculptor in wax, Benoist was also a painter and a sculptor in metal and stone. Beginning in 1657 he was one of the twenty Peintres Ordinaires du Roi and he was elected to the academy in 1691. Benoist executed a few medals and painted in grisaille the portraits of Louis XIV used as obverses for the Histoire Metallique. See S.
