389 Series: TWENTY-FOUR SCENES FROM OVID'S METAMORPHOSES
K. THE RAPE OF PROSERPINA (Met. 5, 405-24)
Pluto, with the resisting Proserpina in his arms, drives his chariot drawn by four horses towards Hades, the gates of which are guarded by a seated music-making figure. From behind the chariot emerge two nymphs, with Cyane hanging to a wheel to prevent die abduction. In the background, a cliff formation.

Bronze, gilt, 74 x 179 mm.
